REVIEW-OLIVER'S HUNGER (SCANGUARD VAMPIRES #7) BY TINA FOLSOM

My rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I don't have a quote from Oliver for this one. Mainly because all he did was whine. I get enough of that from my girls. I don't need it from my grown ass vampires too. I don't know what happened here. I'm a HUGE fan of this series and this author but this particular installment fell short at every turn. I get the whole sibling rivalry thing but the whiny " I know you are but what am I " bullshit bickering between Oliver and Blake grated on my last nerve. At some points, I could actually see both boys stomping their feet and sticking their bottom lip out. Not. Attractive.

Another big problem for me was, well the entire storyline. Kinda screws me out of any hope of enjoyment huh? This girl had been through hell and back. She had been tormented, isolated and hadn't seen not one friend or family member in 3 years and yet poof! He's so hot, she's so hot, we make love, I can fix you. Ugh blah. NEXT!

That's not to say that I'm giving up on this series. I do love the other characters and have enjoyed their books prior to this one and to be honest, their appearances in this installment are what generated the 2 stars. Had they not popped up, I may not have even finished this one. I have really high expectations for the next one but I think I'll take a little break here and give it a go some time early next year.

ARC REVIEW(PLUS EXCERPT)-RELEASING THE DEMONS (THE ORDER OF THE SENARY #1) BY L.D. ROSE

MY RATING: 4.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

***Please note, ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review***

"Permission to enter, Detective."-Blaze

Releasing the Demons is easily one of my favorite reads of the year! It's a great blend of paranormal romance and urban fantasy with, my favorite, vampy goodness. I will say, it does have a Black Dagger Brotherhood fell to it but at the same time, a world all its own. Here in book one, we meet SIX 'brothers' and so I expect no less than five more books in this series and let me just say, I'm looking forward to it!

These brothers have a special link and very specific goal in life and first up is Blaze. Name wise, I have to say his is my least favorite but that little tidbit didn't affect my enjoyment of the book itself. I'm just kind of weird about character names lol. Blaze went through seven long months of hell and he yearns for the taste of revenge whether he loses himself in the process or not. Our heroine is the independent, strong minded Detective Valerie Medeiros and when their worlds collide, all hell breaks loose...literally.

One the most notable PRO's is that the heroine isn't stupid, nor is she awe struck by the mere first sight of the hero. She doesn't get all fluttery, there's no cringe worthy lip biting either. She had a job to do and she did it. That in itself was so refreshing, as I can't deal with any more 'insta love' BS. I just can't, so bravo Ms. Rose!

This was such and easy read. The pacing was spot on, character and world development was clear and precise. The chemistry went far beyond just the main couple, the entire world just came together effortlessly.I never had to stop, scratch my head and backtrack for clarification. Another PRO, which may not be a big deal to all readers, was the presence of ethnic character. I don't mean that the author met a certain quota. I was able to detect the ethnic diversity in the characters without the author going too far. There were no pitiful clich├ęs that screamed " LOOK! Here's my token black guy!" Again, refreshing.

The romance was simply perfect and the heat factor on pointe. Yes, I did indeed love this book. I had quite a few moments where it tugged at my heartstrings and when you get to the 'favor' Blaze asked of his brother Rome...sigh...so good. Oh! And the scene where Blaze and Valerie and speaking from opposite sides of her front door, yep...pass the tissue.

L.D. Rose is indeed an author to watch!

***~EXCERPT~***

His body hardened, his heart thudding in his chest. If that wasn’t enough, the stirring low in his belly sure as hell was.

He wanted her. Badly.
And so did the leech inside him.
“Blaze?” She peered at him with concern, taking a step closer.
He snapped out of it, realizing she’d asked him something he completely missed. “Huh?”

“Do you want some coffee? Something to drink? Eat?”
Yeah, you. He swallowed his saliva, straightening. “I should get going.”

“Oh.” She tried to hide her disappointment but she was bad at it. She wants you to stay. “Where are you heading?”
“Probably home for a few hours. Rest up a bit.” And drink about a gallon of blood while thinking of you. “You know.”
Valerie set what he assumed was the bag of coffee on the counter. She took another step toward him as a wave of jasmine swept over him, tugging him in places he shouldn’t be tugged.
He took a reflexive step back. Goddamn it, he was fine. He’d been fine right up until now. What the hell just happened?
Bad idea, Blaze. Bad fucking idea to starve yourself and walk into her apartment at dusk, with that body, and that face, and those eyes, and that smell . . .
“I’ll show myself out.”
She looked entirely confused as he turned away and headed for the door. Christ, he was acting like he’d never been in a woman’s apartment before, and God knew he’d been in many. But he’d never been this hungry around a woman before—at least, not in ordinary circumstances. And he wasn’t famous for his control.
He could feel it, that ugly darkness inside him spreading through his veins, making his lips and toes tingle. The leech opened its jaws and yawned, sucking down what was left of his civility. His gums tightened, squeezing his canines, urging them to grow, to elongate.
To spring free.
“Blaze—”

He needed to get out. Now.

“I’ll see you in the morning,” he ground out, his voice a near growl. “Good night, Val.”

He slammed the door behind him and managed to stagger ten paces down the hall before his limbs stopped working. Sweat dripped down the sides of his face and trickled down his spine. His hands shook and he clenched them into fists. He stood there, chest heaving, heart pounding, fangs pulsing, cock throbbing. He closed his eyes and lifted his face toward the ceiling, trying to wrestle the monster down, trying to beat it back into submission.
But it was already too late.
Through the din in his head, Blaze heard a door click behind him, disengaging from its frame. It creaked open slowly as jasmine slithered through the hallway toward him, rising up and striking at his senses, delivering the final blow. He craned his neck and spotted her.
Valerie’s blond hair fell in a curtain as she peeked out, looking for him. Her eyes widened when she found him, still standing in the corridor, and she quickly retreated.
“Sorry,” she murmured, but before she could close the door, he was already there, his hand propped against it.
She looked at him in pleasant surprise. “Blaze, I—”
He didn’t give her a chance to finish. He seized her mouth with his before he slammed the door behind him and locked it shut.

The New York Times Best Selling author Nashoda Rose is back with the much anticipated story of Kai and London in the Unyielding series.

Kai

There is nothing I care about.
No attachments.
No connections.
Outwardly, I’m a perfect gentleman.
Until my target sees my knife.
I fear nothing, not even death.
In my world, death is considered a privilege.
But my life comes with unbreakable cruel strings and
when I met her, I should’ve walked away.
I didn’t.
I was too selfish.
And that sealed her fate.
Because one week with me led her into the hands of ruin.

London

We all have unique layers that make up who we are.
What makes us vulnerable or strong.
What we fear and what excites us.
But peel back those layers and you’re left naked and exposed.
They did that to me.
Each piece was slowly stripped away then burned.
I merely existed.
But there was one layer they overlooked.
The most important of them all—the tie to one man.
The man responsible for me being this way.
The man who found me.
And the killer who would do anything to protect me.

Perfect Ruin is the dark erotic story of Kai and London.
Their beginning.
And the continuing story of Vault.

Must be read in order:

Perfect Chaos (Unyielding, #1) Deck and Georgie
Perfect Ruin (Unyielding, #2) Kai and London
Perfect Rage (Unyielding, #3) Connor’s story

 4.5 out of 5 stars

"Don't ever stop believing in me." Because I didn't know what I'd do if she did.~Kai

YES!!! We are back on track! Perfect Ruin is book 2 in the Unyielding series by Nashoda Rose. While I can't say I fell in absolute love with book 1, Perfect Chaos, this installment has pulled me in. It pulled me in mainly because I seemed to stay 'on the fence' for most of the story. Mommy issues overload! I loved it, love that it was actually fused into the story, not just a convenient backstory excuse for our lead male to be an asshole. Speaking of  our lead male, another pro for me was his name-Kai. It's different without being too different...or that of anything regarding automotives or terms you would hear at an arraignment.

Kai is described to be in his early 30's, stands at 6'2" and has a subtle British accent. Perfect. Beneath the calm lies a live wire and for me, that's one of, if not thee most intriguing thing about this character. However, there is a find line between dominant and bully imo and there were a couple of scenes that didn't sit well with me. His chosen 'punishment' dumbed down the heroine and no, she was not "brave". I went back and forth on how I felt about his idea of therapy/rehab but his character development was nicely done. It was one particular scene, working on the spare room that made him so completely human and eventually, the give and take became a bit more balanced.

Perfect Ruin doesn't solely revolve around the lead couple and as this series progresses I'm seeing how all the characters and backstories are tightly woven together. Along with the fast paced action, it added a lot of depth to the story. On a side note, Ernie. LOVE

Connor.

Is it 2016 yet?!
