PROMO-SHADOW TOWN BY ROBYN JONES (PLUS EXCERPT AND GIVEAWAY!!!)

Welcome to my stop on the Shadow Town (Maggie Lane Chronicles #1) by Robyn Jones Tour

Published: January 29, 2014
Genre: New Adult, Paranormal Romance

Goodreads Summary

By day, nineteen-year-old Maggie Lane is property manager of Pearl Estates, a posh housing community owned by her father and occupied by Shadows. By night, she's a waitress at a local dive. When a girl at her night job disappears, she dives into Scooby mode. She might be able to handle a missing waitress on her own, but when a new Shadow moves in next door and turns her into a blushing, flirting, love-crazed girl, her need for answers unearths nightmares from her past and monsters of the here and now. It's possible her bad attitude might not be enough to carry her through.

New Adult paranormal romance Shadow Town is the first novel in the Maggie Lane Chronicles.

Excerpt

“Are you kidding me? Branden, the Haas' are late on their electric bill.” I was over there yesterday with checkbook in hand! I asked them if they were behind.

There's no doubt in my mind what that Minerva Power truck is doing in their driveway. It's the same routine. My evil father accepts a rental application from some wonderfully kind family who can't afford our neighborhood. As soon as they miss a payment, he ousts them for a Shadow. I've been able to see the darkness my whole life, a useless gift that gave me a comfy seat on too many shrink couches as a kid. It’s not like I have special powers. I see an inky sort of cloud that hovers around them. Them being the majority of the tenants in my father's strange town within a town.

Frank Beeker is too rich for his own good, if he had any good in him to begin with. Sometime back, my father got it into his head to build a village, not with huts and archaic stones to keep the tide from washing away homes. No, Frank came up with a mini-town that's a cross between crazy recluse commune and Beverly Hills gated community.

Twenty-three houses, one small cafe, one kitschy store, a medical clinic, and an indoor Olympic-sized pool, make up the place I call home. The pool house is the big draw for me, besides the awesomely huge pool, plus there's a hot tub. To top it off, I have my own hours in the morning that exclude the rest of the neighborhood.

Of the twenty-three houses, only five (not including mine that I share with my best friend, Branden Mills) have normal families living in them. The rest are Shadows. Every eviction brings one more to the town, to my dad's Pearl Estates. The name is cheesy, I know. I didn't have a say in what to call this bizarre Shadow home, just as much as I didn't have a say in my birth name, Marguerite Lane Beeker. It's Maggie Lane now.

About Robyn Jones:

I'm the mom of two hardcore boys. My oldest trained me to be matter-of-fact, no frills. My youngest wants the whole singsongy sweet package. Thank goodness for reading and writing because they are my sanity makers. I know life is all about the journey, that's why I like my fiction to be all about the destination. I want to be taken somewhere not here when I read, same goes with the stories I create. Thrills, chills, tears, and laughter, but there has to be something to hold on to at the end.

ARC REVIEW-CHERRY STEM BY SOTIA LAZU

My rating:4 out of 5 stars

***Please note, book gifted to me by the author via PaC Romance group on Goodreads***

"I sound like a chick."

~Alex

Yes Alex, indeed you did...and I loved you for it. Sometimes, just sometimes, I'm lucky enough to snag just the right book that's just right for me at just the right time and Cherry Stem has earned its spot on that short list.

Cherry Stem is a vampire that is pretty much on her own. She's still aching from a broken heart and aside from the occasional (and mandatory) meal...she generally keeps to herself. It's that need to feed that brings her face to face with a hot human cop by the name of Alex.

Alex is SUCH. A. GIRL. but in the most manliest ways possible. ;-) The tough cop wears his damaged heart on his sleeve, has a lopsided grin and is prone to a blush or two when jealous. With that being said, don't underestimate him. Officer Alex is all man and quite the dominant when it counts. On that note, the steam factor here is off the charts and can I just say...when his insecurities rise....O.O

Not to be outdone, we also have Constantine. This grey character has more of an edge to him and I do love my vamps. Not all love triangles work for me as I typically have a clear favorite but that wasn't the case here. I went back and for and back again. Maybe I'll just pretend they all three lived happily ever after!!!

Cherry is a great heroine. Sure, she's suffered loss and heartache but it hasn't completely turned her to stone and left her emotionally crippled. I look forward to more of her story. I haven't seen anything in regards to a sequel but there has to be a book 2. There just HAS TO BE!!!

ARC REVIEW-AN UNTIMELY RETURN (AN UNTIMELY ROMANCE #2)

My rating: 3 out of 5 stars

***Please note, gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review***

Untimely Return picks up years later where Dannika, Heather's then six year old niece is now a young adult. I have to say, I LOATHED this character. She drew my interest immediately, at the very beginning but once she stumbled upon a certain someone in the woods, I hated her from that point on. She's childish, selfish and seems to simply get off on messing with the emotions and minds of basically every man she comes in contact with. She gave me whiplash with her back and forth and therefore none of her words of "love" rang true regardless of who she was telling them to at any given moment.

I think I would have enjoyed this book much more had I not had such a strong dislike for multiple characters. Dannika set the tone but then there's also Beth who disgusts me. She should have lost her license (she's a nurse) a long time ago. She is the epitome of dysfunction and enabled the person she was supposed to care for. And then there's Ruben. I felt sorry for him for about 2 seconds at the beginning of the book but then went right back to hating him due to some "feelings" that literally came out of nowhere. These "feelings" were for a character that should have been completely off limits, not to mention there was zero chemistry. None.

Alfred was, by far, my favorite character. I loved that he wasn't the typical male lead. He wasn't a Greek god, nor was he afraid to where his heart on his sleeve. He had me on edge for a bit though. I needed him to man up and stand up for himself. He was able to love in a place where I saw none was worthy.

I'm not usually a historical romance kind of girl but in this case, I really loved the world created here. I only wish it hadn't been tainted by characters I just couldn't get on board with no matter how hard I tried. While the story itself was a little hard to follow at times due to a lot of information being given all at once and the back and forth century hopping, overall the plot is both intriguing and clever.

A BIG CONGRATS PLUS RATING CHANGE!!! (UNTIMELY ROMANCE BY J.L. WELLS)

Hi there angels! It's been far too long! I've missed blogging so much but life sometimes gets in the way and mine has been crazy busy as of late. I hope you guys haven't jumped ship due to lack of updates, posts and giveaways! I'll do better, PROMISE!

First up, a HUGE congrats to Laura, author of UNTIMELY for the birth of her baby boy who is ADORABLE btw. Those cheeks!!! She and I were discussing her book via email while she was in the hospital awaiting his arrival. SUPER MOM already eh?

So...I initially read and reviewed UNTIMELY back in June of last year and needless to way, I didn't really hold back and gave it but 2 stars. You can read my original review HERE.

I was gifted an updated version as well as book 2 (I will be starting that one tonight!) and have revised my rating and review as follows...

2/17-Changing my original 2 star rating to 3.5 based on the changes the author(s) have made. In my initial review I had a HUGE problem with one of the leading men, Ruben and the relationship he had with the heroine. In the original version, he had no redeeming qualities whatsoever and the level of emotional and mental abuse he dished out completely eclipsed the story itself. I am happy to say that while the resident asshole is still, just that. I DID feel a wee bit of sympathy for him in some cases. That in itself is huge given in the previous version I simply wanted to set him on fire and be on my merry way.

I still have some issues about Heather's age, so young for such a storyline and the fashion sense at times, the vest tops for example, leave me scratching my head. I was lucky enough to be gifted book 2 of this intriguing paranormal romance and can't wait to dive in. Here's to hoping Beth (secondary female character) dies. Yes...I need her dead.;-)

BOTH books in the UNTIMELY ROMANCE SERIES are currently on sale for .99 at AMAZON.

PROMO-AUTHOR DONNA MCDONALD

TOUR BANNER
SCI FI COVER
SYNOPSIS
his is Book 5 of the Forced To Serve series.
Despite being energetically compelled to do so, Malachi was tired of chasing after a physical body with the wrong female spirit living inside it. What was the point? The real Rena Trax was back in her form and his feisty emissary was nowhere to be found. It wasn’t fair. She had left him with a million unanswered questions and no worthy being to debate them with. But why did he even care? He was an alien spirit. He was the Demon of Synar. No female, regardless of how powerful, could change that fact.
EXCERPT
“Are we back to the debate about which of us will obey the will of the other?” Angel asked.
Malachi ducked his head and pressed his lips to hers gently. When he raised his head, her eyes flashed. “Demons are evil. I plan to take your lack of resistance as permission.”
“Very well,” she said. “I should warn you that I have never really done this before. I mean in reality, with a body. I’ve only observed. Even then, I didn’t really participate. I just sort of filed notes away in case I chose to do this with you.”
His finger froze on her chin. “You’ve never? Ever?
When she shook her head, his fingers quivered on her. “How can that be?”

book 1
SYNOPSIS
Being captain of his own rescue ship is the life Liam Synar has always dreamed of living. Being master of a hereditary demon is not. Coveting Malachi's power, his exiled brother hunts him to capture the demon that Liam's life mate unknowingly hosts. Putting Malachi inside Ania two years ago had been an act to save her when she almost died saving his. If only the demon hadn't killed again.
EXCERPT
Watching her now, his body clamored to go to her. Demon or not, he still wanted Ania Looren with the same raging need he had felt the first time. And now he wanted her even more desperately after all the time they’d been apart. Shades of Kellnor, why couldn’t he have realized this was going to happen two years ago?
Ania stopped moving when she felt Synar’s thoughts. “You didn’t figure it out two years ago because you only allowed yourself to think of one option, which was staying away. You accuse me of hiding truths, but you lied about coming back for me. That’s why I filed the mating dissolution form. I no longer wished to be at the mercy of your indecisive mind that changes like the shifting winds of Terlon.”
Synar went to the wall rack, picked out a defense staff matching hers, and walked to the mat. “Fine. You think you know my intentions and true feelings. Make me leave you alone.”
“I am Khalsa. It is easily done.” Ania sliced the air around her, following the staff with a sweeping glare.
“I disagree. Eventually, I will figure out how to appease you, Ania. Maybe I do deserve some of your wrath, but I won’t fall at your feet as quickly as Gwen. If you defeat me fairly, I’ll heed your demands. If I win, you must agree to forgive me.”
“You can’t defeat me, Synar. Have you ever won a fight with Dorian?”
“Dorian isn’t here. And he isn’t you,” Synar said sharply, smiling at Ania’s confidence. He was now getting excited at the prospect of getting his hands on her. “Dorian says I’m getting closer to defeating him. He says I’m faster than I used to be. After centuries of not fighting, you’re way out of practice. I figure that gives me a fair chance.”
Ania snorted. “How can you talk about being fair? You tricked me into your bed the first time with promises of affection and declarations of need that would have wooed any female. I still don’t know why I agreed.”
Synar’s answer was to smile wickedly at her confession. Her body shivered in response. A frisson of awareness zipped along her nerve endings, and what followed was so unfamiliar Ania almost didn’t recognize how aroused she suddenly was. The feeling was so disconcerting that it felt like illness to her.
“I remember our first bonding time like it happened only moments ago. I was just as desperate for you then as I am right now,” Synar said quietly, never taking his eyes from her.
Her life force pushed and pressed against every cell until Ania spun her defense staff to create a wider distance between them. Seeing him retreat was a reminder to her body not to betray her to this male. It was also a reminder to Synar that she wasn’t receptive to his words, no matter what she was feeling.
“Speak with Dorian. He can help you get some physical relief,” Ania instructed, lifting her chin.
“So can you,” Synar said, smiling again because he could see she was distressed. Beyond that though was more—much more. And he wanted to know what it was.
