REVIEW-WHISPER CAPE (WHISPER CAPE #1) BY SUSAN GRISCOM

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

"Shut up and kiss me."

~Cael

What a pleasant surprise! I've had this book on my seemingly endless "to be read" shelf for quite some time and now I wish I had gotten to it sooner. Whisper Cape is book one in the Whisper Cape series by Susan Griscom. Life for Addison Mackenna hasn't always been easy. She never got the chance to know her mother and now with her father gone as well, she is quickly learning that the world, her life, her family even, isn't what it seems. The nightmares won't give and did I mention she fears she mowed a man down on her way to work?

I enjoyed Addison as the lead heroine. Sure, she has her issues, her insecurities and struggles to understand what is happening around her. That being said, she kept her head held high and her wits about her. Even though she has a trust fund, she chooses to work as a bartender at  her aunt Maia's boyfriends (Gerry) establishment. The bar/restaurant, Cliff Hanger,  is a hot spot in Whisper Cape and for the most part, she enjoys working alongside her best friend Darcy and Darcy's love sick ex Jared. After the initial shock of seeing with her own eyes, Cael step through the door, Addison soon realized her life would never be the same.

Cael's mission in Whisper Cape is to hunt a killer and protect the secret society of which he is a vital member. He knows what he's looking for but when he realizes the key, literally, is the beautiful woman he can't seem to stop thinking about, things get...tricky. Cael doesn't do "love", relationships don't come easy for him due to his inability to share all of himself and his identity. With a mad man after Addie, Cael steps in to protect her, falling for her along the way.

I loved these two together. There was an instant attraction but the connection, the chemistry, grew as the story progressed. Cael has the alpha, yet vulnerable thing going on which is a win/win. He's strong but doesn't go around beating on his chest and grunting when things don't go his way. That being said, silly boy, when will men realize that when they set out "protect" using different methods, it ALWAYS. ENDS. BADLY.?!

Whisper Cape has a lot of twists and turns, and interesting supporting cast that I hope to get to know a bit more when I continue on to book 2. There is action, suspense and the steam factor, isn't just "hot", hot is easy, Cael and Addison have a beautiful intimacy between them, making for a powerful duo (in more ways than one. ;-) ). I can't wait to see what happens next!
