"You're not a gift I'm going to waste. I swear by this ring and everything it still means to me, you will be safe. I'll protect you from any animal, asshole, criminal or deviant who thinks they can lay so much as a fingernail of harm against you. And yeah, that includes protecting you from me too."

Seriously. And do I even have to say one word about that cover? Damn. Garrett Hawkins had me at the word "heaven". Saved By His Submissive begins with quite a scene. A scene that is both pulse racing and bitter sweet and sets the tone for the remainder of the book quite nicely. Due to a devastating loss, Garrett is but a shell of the man he once was and in many ways, more lethal. His comrades, Zeke specifically, is concerned for his "brother" and his seemingly inability to let go. When a big mission comes up, Zeke wants to make sure that Garrett's head is in the game before heading out. Let's talk bromance. The banter between best friends Garrett and Zeke provides quite a few laugh out loud moments and in my case, more swooning. They are the perfect duo. Garrett keeps it together, more so for the rest of his squad because he no longer really cares whether he lives or dies. That is, until he's face to face with a ghost.
Sage is one of the best lead heroines that I've come across in quite some time. There is nothing timid or weak about her and doesn't hold her tongue for anyone. For me, she made all the difference. This is a BDSM kink read with a military backdrop but it goes far beyond that at the same time. I don't really care for kink just for the sake of kink. I need plot, heart and the female to do me proud and Sage Weston delivers, absolutely! The love of her life is attempting to hide a part of himself from her and she ain't havin' it! If it's a part of him, it's a part of her, of them as a couple. The dialogue between these two characters is so beautiful, raw and intimate, it would hard not to fall in love with them as a couple. Did I mention there are quite a few laugh out loud moments between those two as well? Like I said, Sage is no wallflower and truly enjoys pushing damn near every button Garrett has and I LOVED it!
So why just 3.5 stars? Well...okay, first let me apologize ahead of time if this is MY error and I simply missed it. I don't recall much explanation of Garrett's training, as a DOM. The reader is given some back story, a memory from his childhood that say "triggered" his tendencies and there is also mentions of a wild night(s) out with Zeke but other than that, how much training has Garrett really had? The first 3/4 of the book had me, totally and completely but then something happened. It was like a switch flipped and it lost me a little bit. Not that there was anything "confusing" taking place it just felt like there was such a build up that when I finally got to it, it didn't quite feel right and while this likely makes zero sense, the ending somehow managed to go on for too long and was yet rushed at the same time. I told you that wouldn't make much sense but hey, that's me. LOL
Zeke is up next and he's quite the force to be reckoned with, I can't wait to see how he gets himself out of the sure to be disaster that was planted in book 1!

"I love you so much, Suzu, the mere thought of you with someone else crucified me. I couldn't cope with that. You're mine. My Suzu. Don't ever forget that."

Bat. Shit. Crazy. Obsession, perfectly titled by the way, is the first of Sophia Grey's Talisman series. What seems to be the perfect marriage between race car driver superstar Gabe and TV personality Suki is anything but. The Bridgewaters have an extremely dysfunctional marriage to say the least. The virgin bride at the tender age of 18 thought she had it all, the perfect marriage, the perfect life.

Josh Delaney makes his living by proving married women, or women in general it seems, cannot be trusted and will easily stray. He had no idea what or whom the next client would bring into his life or how it would turn it completely upside down.

This book was really quite disturbing. The level in which Gabe stooped to attain total and complete control over his wife was demented at best. It takes a special brand of evil to not only do the things he did but to also be able to justify it in ones own mind. Suzi has only one true friend and she just so happens to be the wife of Gabe's number one rival in the world of race car, this of course only fuels him further. There are lots of twists and turns plus surprising revelations in this book that made good for quite the page turner.

If I had one complaint, it would be the paranormal element. Good looks and charm for days aside, what also makes Josh so good at his job is his psychic ability to read the emotions and thoughts of these women that he pursues. Also, he has a reoccurring dream that he can't make sense of and a pull towards an old home that he can't explain either. Those things coupled with a bizarre scene between he and a character named Dante and the mysterious talisman around his wrist struck intrigued the paranormal lover in me. That being said, even as I got to the end of the book, I still had more questions than answers. Not to say all should have been revealed, this is to be a series after all, but I would have liked a little more insight so this mystery man.  All that aside, am I looking forward to book 2? Damn straight.

Hello loves! I hope each and every one of you are enjoying your Summer. I for one am living like bacon but as a Texan, what can ya' do? lol I just want to take this time to update on some things. The past couple of months have been really busy for me. My girls are out for Summer break so between kid camps and Ortho appointments, you can imagine what my days have looked like. On top of that, I got a couple of licenses to allow me to work on my interests outside of cyberspace.

Did I mention that I'm working on a new project that I hope to share with you in the coming months? I have decided to try my hand and pen my own novella. I'm already FREAKING OUT but, good or bad, it's something I feel I need to get out of my system. More details to come (hopefully!). On that note, I need some help here at PRUFreads. I love my little blog and want to keep it up and running while I pursue other things as well. If you would like to do a guest review, a guest post or even come on board as a regular reviewer, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact me at

Can I talk about authors for just a second? I  know that in the past few months, some not so flattering discussion has taken place in regards to authors behavior. I have been incredibly lucky to have had such amazing experiences with the authors I've encountered since starting this blog. A huge THANK YOU to each and every one of you. Most recently, a writing duo provided me with their book in exchange for an honest review. I chose 2 stars out of 5 for various reasons. You can read the review here. When I received an email from the authors, I'll be honest, I was hesitant to open it. Instead of jumping down my throat, they reached out and wanted to know more. As true professionals, they took my words and made changes. Scenes have been tweaked and even new scenes have been added. How awesome is that? Lesson learned, honesty is always best, be it for the reader, blogger and author(s) alike.

MMM GIVEAWAYS-yes, I know I've been slacking HARD on this but smile!! As soon as I'm done with this post, I will be going through my recent reviews and decide which book to giveaway so please stay tuned! Also, please note that a Bloglovin' button has been added to the sidebar on the right hand side.

"You shouldn't trust me, Sofia. I can lose my mind and break you any time."

Let's talk cover. The color scheme is gorgeous. I'm not sure how I feel about the guy though. Maybe it's because I have the lead character looking very different in my own head.

A Castle of Sand is the third installment of the A Shade of Vampire series by Bella Forrest. Once again, the story came out swinging by foreshadowing what was to come. It was a great set up that, as the reader, I wondered, in the back of my head as I read, when will the other shoe drop? The odds continue to stack against Derek and Sophia and danger is literally around every corner. Their relationship is steadily maturing as the series continues. When I say maturing, I don't mean sex. This isn't quite a YA read and while it isn't a detail oriented erotica, you get the gist, hormones are definitely flying. They matured in how they communicated, how they went from being a couple to one solid, joint force. In the world of make believe, their relationship and the progression of it is very relatable and therefore believable.

Those damn Novak men. By now, you know the deal, love the Prince, hate the passed over Prince and the menacing King. That being said, there's a little something that all three characters possess that strikes intrigue. Dear ol' dad is ruthless and that devious Even the golden boy, Derek, the most fascinating thing about his character is that he is, literally, always teetering on the edge. He isn't quite stable when it comes to keeping his wits about him, remaining "proper". He will flip his lid at the flip of a coin and that alone sends me into a fan girl frenzied!

A Castle of Sand was a coming of age for both Sophia and Derek. No longer just the star crossed lovers, they are finding themselves, their individual strength and their greater purpose. Sophia emerged as a brave, determined young woman and while Derek may be forever 18, he is no child. He is forced to draw his line in the sand and stands strong with his choices, willing to sacrifice everything that he is for whom he loves. This too cued additional fan girling.

Last but not least, there were tears. As Vivienne warned, blood was indeed shed. Quite a bit actually. This isn't just a teen sappy romance, it's also has a balls to the wall, catch me if you can type of feel to it. It's action packed with many twists and turns and surprises that left my jaw on the floor and tears in my eyes. Fantastic storytelling, another job well done.

"Never hold a grudge. Hold a hammer. It's a lot more intimidating."

Here! Here! I have to say, I was surprised when this author/stand up comedian contacted me about reviewing his book. I'm always thrilled and honored to hear from authors, offering me their "baby" but when I took a closer look, I was completely confused. His reasoning? It's good to step out of your norm for a good laugh. He was right. It was the perfect time for me to pick up something a little lighter that made me laugh.

I have to say, I don't love the cover or the title even. I think some would skip over it instead of giving it a chance. The author himself is actually rather good looking, USE IT MAN! I got a cocky, yet quirky charm type of vibe as I read along. I love the idea of him on the cover showcasing a little of that. But...that's just me.

The book itself is funny and in many ways alarmingly insightful. I would read a passage, laugh and then midway, choke on that laugh, "Wait...he does have a point. Hmm..." He provides his testosterone driven input on dating, sex and understanding men vs women. The problem for me is, I don't see it as a sit down, cover to cover type of read. This is the perfect "coffee table" book or to have on your kindle when you're having just one of those days. Or even better, when you come home, alone, from a date that failed. again. "Hog Wild will definitely give you something to laugh about...oh and never will you be able to look at these the same way again. Ever.Hahaha!

"Come to me Angel."

Heavenly Lover is the story of Daniel, an artist who has lost everything, including his way and Claire, the guardian angel sent to save him from himself. You know those times when the idea looks good on paper, that everything should just be oh so perfect, yet it isn't? Yeah, that. I had high hopes for this one and while I can't say it's a bad read, in my opinion it could have been a whole lot better. The foundation is there but there were certain things that drove me crazy.

Daniel is a gorgeous man but when I came to a description of his hair, it brought me up short. "...dark curly hair cascading over his forehead and down to his shoulders to end behind his ears." Wait. What? I had to read that a couple of times, how does it go down to his shoulders to end behind his ears? Where are his ears exactly? And even worse, my first thought went to "mullet". Is he sporting a Billy Ray? Is that what you're telling me?!?! Sigh...okay, moving on.

I loved the idea of the angels, under Father's guidance, the training etc. It was intriguing and I couldn't wait to find out more. Until I read how the angels make their way to Earth. How does one hail a taxi at the pearly gates exactly? I developed a love/hate relationship with our heroine. On one hand she was strong, yet loving and exactly what Daniel was missing in his life. Two seconds later I found myself wanting to take those dreadful yellow Crocs off of her feet and smack her over the head with them. I guess there is a fine line between a character being "innocent" and "immature".

The supporting cast brought some perks, especially Daniel's agent and friend, Josh. He brought a darker element to the story and added more intrigue and interest than both leads combined. That's not to trash Daniel, he was delish, even with that poor achy breaky heart... even his crazy ex brought a little "umph". There were many times that I felt I was rooting for the wrong characters to prevail.

The steam factor is solid for both the romance lovers and the smutters! Though again, while some scenes were so sensual and beautifully written, all it takes is the wrong turn of a phrase and it just kills it for me. Granted, in the Romance genre, the various names given to both male and female genitalia seems endless. That being said, I'm adding "peach" and "cave" to my DO NOT CALL LIST!

If you're thinking to yourself, "WTF is wrong with her today? This review is all over the place!", yeah well, now you know how I felt while making my way through this book. I went from mumbling "Gahhh! Just kill them both already" to crying my eyes out over a letter written by Daniel to his angel. Will I continue this series? I'm about as back and forth on that as this review.

"You don't deserve a man that wants to break you."

It isn't all that difficult to see a pattern in my book preferences. I love paranormal of course, urban fantasy as well. I also love and everything "rock star". Therefore, when I saw this cover featuring a rock star with angel wings ink, it was a no brainer, win/win (even though this isn't paranormal). Books featuring rockers seem to be exploding right now. You have your choice of sweet rocker contemporary romance, rocker kink erotica and everything in between. And then there's Obsession.

I can't say that it's perfectly written. There are some editing issues and even a cliché here and there. The word "arse" alone is enough to drive me to drinking. That being said, at the end of the day, I don't care. Even attempting to write this review has brought back the emotional roller coaster this book took me on. I can't recall the last time I've cried so hard or been so enraptured by one single character. This book is as brilliant and bold as it is controversial. It isn't for everyone and in some instances, it could possibly anger some readers. While there is a strong BDSM element throughout, this isn't your typical wild night with a rocker in his playroom kind of book.

Gabriel is a dark, damaged man. He's also talented, highly intelligent and stunning. He keeps a low profile and with good reason given that he is "public enemy #1. That same man is also loving, attentive and for lack of a better term, needy. He needs security, he needs to know where he stands, he needs control. When he is taken by an innocent beauty at a local coffee shop, he sits, and he waits. Nothing will stop him from having her, just as he wants her. Noel is unaware of his presence, his longing, but not for long. A spilled cup of coffee will change both of their lives forever.

He's lost, broken and is laced with such intensity that you can't help but be pulled in. He's an addiction in his own right and she can't help but drown in him, even when she knows she's in over her head.  Granted, their attraction was instant but at the same time, Noel had her reservations, her concerns and so for me, their relationship was believable, not as "fairytale" as many insta-love type of books. They have their silly moments, where they can laugh and genuinely just be together but their relationship is also turbulent, they have a lot of issues to workout between them.

Obsession is the first of the Darkness Falls series by Ivory Quinn. It touches on both sensitive social and religious issues as well as graphic sex scenes. This story is about control, both losing it, gaining it and in some ways, having it yanked away. It's beautiful, dark, inspiring and tragic.

"Well, I suppose you've left me no choice, have you? I'll wait, I'll be patient, until you're eighteen, that is. I'll wait because you're special, my girl. Now go home, Heather, and stop wasting my time. I can't deal with you tonight."

Wow. I don't quite know where to begin and trust me, I hate when that happens. Blurb via Goodreads...

Four intertwining love triangles, an unbreakable web preordained by the hands of time, a fate from which seventeen-year-old Heather Richardson is unable to escape, her future already written. Thrown back into the nineteenth century she is given a lifeline, a choice, will she make the right decision?

I liked the intro to this book, it provided immediate romance, intrigue and suspense. From there, however, it went downhill. I guess my first issue is the heroines age. She's seventeen, the book covers the span of the three months prior to her eighteenth birthday. In my opinion, most readers would take that as to mean it's more of a YA read, young adult even. I'm not prude and overall, the language and heat level is mild but, it's the message to young woman that concerns me most. I'm not going to hop up on my soapbox and berate the authors. They had a story to tell and they told it. That in itself takes great courage (star #1).

Heather takes one glance at Ruben and knows right then and there she would do anything for that man. Yep, just like that. My first impression of him was sleazy perv who so happened to be blessed with Greek God like looks. That never changed for me. Not for the entire length of the book. My opinion of him only worsened. She's seventeen, he's twenty four and from literally the very first encounter, he controlled and abused. There was not one redeeming quality in this male lead. He was vile, disgusting and just a grade A asshole. Her parents disgusted me as well, so approving of this relationship. In regards to real time, Heather only had one friend, and that so called friend was a disgusting excuse of one. I kept waiting for someone to sit Heather down and talk some sense into her but no, it never happened. The first 3/4 of this book read like a bad after school special.

It wasn't until Heather became trapped in another time did the book take on any real meaning, or appreciation from me. It was like an alternate story, one that I wished had taken precedence over the rest. There was true romance, friendship, and the word building created such richness. Frank, the other male lead, his character shined and his grace and manners were so refreshing given what I had to read through previously. Florence, was a delight and the closest thing Heather had to a real friend, or family for that matter.(star #2)

It was too short and too late to reverse the damage already done. The paranormal aspect of the book was a little chaotic at times, not quite clear enough until closer towards the end where it was more spelled out for the reader. The idea was quite clever actually, kudos for that. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't enough to pull it together. I only wish that the last 1/4 of the story had been the beginning and that the previous 3/4 had simply been Heather's nightmare that she could shake off, learn from and never ever look back on again.

"Some things are meant to be."

Hunger Moon is book 2 in the Norse Werewolves series, a series I'm quickly becoming obsessed with. I've recently come to realize that I'm an instant gratification kind of reader (and writer apparently but that's a whole 'nother blog post.*wink*) and Ms. Snark is my kind of author. I noted in the review of book 1, The Child Thief, that she doesn't go on and on with pointless ramblings that to me, is just to pad word count. Her on point method continues with this newest installment.

Things continue to look bleak for Victoria and her pack but they may find the safety they seek but of course it won't come easy. The problem begins with Victoria. Above all else, she wants to provide for and protect what is left of her pack. If that means seeking out an alpha male, of whom she's never even met, to be her mate and possible challenge her for her for alpha, then she'll do it. Maybe not with bells on, but she'll do it.

Arik Koenig comes with his own set of baggage. For one, he's a lawyer...strike one. His wife was murdered and her spirit comes a knockin'...strike two. Last but not least, her would be stepson Logan is not only hot, cocky and the epitome of arrogant, he's also said to be his own mothers killer...strike three. Victoria briefly escapes the drama surrounding the hunters only to stumble into a more that in many ways, is much more complicated and deadly.

Hunger Moon kept great pace and had my emotions up, down and back again. There were shocking twists and turns that rounded out the story quite nicely. Ms. Snark keeps killing characters! My mouth dropped open more than once and even now, I'm curious as to where this goes. When you think you know, guess what, you don't! New characters are introduced and this world takes on more shape. On a side note, this is a shifter series and I love shifter books. That being said, there was one scene that was a little to authentic for me, when it came to feeding. Literally threw up in my mouth a little bit (ironic)...and that's all I have to say about that.

The romantic (and steam factor...HOT!!!) aspect of this series was kicked up a notch and I bounced back and forth numerous times before I picked my guy. When you find yourself asking, "Wait, is he the one I'm supposed to like best, or that one? Wait, no that's the right one...right?!" for me, that's a good thing. Arik is dark and and powerful, alpha male from the ground up. He's a delicious male lead. In many ways, his son Logan couldn't be more opposite of his dad but at the same time, for me at least, he remains the stand out character overall, not just in regards to male lead. He's fascinating and quite the enigma and that smart ass mouth of his is just gravy. ;-)

Bring on book 3!

Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed your weekend! I just want to again thank everyone who has participated in my recent giveaways, and to give a sneak peak of what I'll be reading this week. As you can see on my sidebar, I'm currently reading...

Valkyrie Victoria Storm desires nothing more than to provide her wolf pack with a safe haven, but her position as priestess to the Goddess Freya also brings with it certain… obligations. Not to mention complications.

War with the Barrett family resulted in the deaths of her parents and most of her pack. Now, hunters are hot on the trail of the remaining pack members. Sawyer Barrett, a human hunter hell bent on revenge, is convinced that Victoria murdered his brother. He will stop at nothing to see her dead.

Victoria must defend the survivors and somehow lead them to safety. Months on the run has weakened the pack, and there are newborn pups to protect, making swift travel impossible. Ahead, the promise of refuge beckons.

Their best chance for survival lies in Sierra Pines, California: Arik Koenig, a powerful, dominant male wolf. He promises to protect and provide for the pack, something Victoria knows the pack needs for survival. His mysterious past is riddled with violence and death, including the slaughter of his entire family twenty years before. His wife died under mysterious circumstances and his son, Logan, is rumored to be her killer.

What is truth? Who can she trust? The desperate spirit of Arik’s murdered wife calls out for help, and Logan begs for assistance in clearing his name. Victoria must solve a murder that has pitted father against son, rooted in a mystery reaching back two decades. Her quest starts her on a journey from the human world to Odin’s Valhalla and back again.

Victoria will find salvation or face destruction beneath the Hunger Moon…

Warning: story contains heart-stopping action scenes, sizzling hot sexual tension and language you wouldn't want your mother to hear.
Next up is...

And last but not least, I will be taking a break from my paranormal with this....
The most important tip to dating on social networks is to avoid making the mistake of “liking” you own status.

Because when you "like" your own Facebook status it's like when you're having sex and you slap your own ass.
A lot of girls like a guy who is a bad-ass. That’s why my conversations with women go like this:

GIRL: I like a man of danger.

ME: Come back to my place and we'll open the .exe attachments in my email!
Dear Shirtless Guy in his Profile Picture, you REALLY want to impress girls? Get a job and pose in front of your cubicle.
Dear Guy at the Dance Club, Please stop grinding random girls from behind like you are some kind of creepy penis-shaped bulldozer.
They say you can get a girl to like you, if you can make her jealous. So I make sure the girl sees me with a pretty expensive handbag!
Girls like when you tell them about the adorable things that children do. For instance, like when my little nephew asked me, "When babies are in the tummy do they use mommy's belly button as a window?"

Thank God he didn't ask what they use as a door!

"You'll serve me no matter what happens. If I come back defeated, and the witches sorcery has driven you mad, I'll grab you by the hair and drag you into the north to rut still."

~Kulav, aka God-King

Swooooon, isn't he sweet? The Warlord's Concubine was a tricky read for me. At first, it seemed to be a "pushing the envelope" type of kink fest. Then, oddly enough, the girl power kicked in and even more surprising, a love story emerged.

Mirella is the green eyed, olive skinned hand maiden to the much more fair and frail princess Anabelle (who in my opinion is basically too stupid to live). She has long since accepted her fate but at the same time, always knew she was worthy and capable of more. What is initially a frightening and tragic event turns the tables leaving Mirella and Anabelle on even grounds. The strengths and weaknesses of both women play out as the story unfolds.

Kulav, our god king, is a rough around the edges to say the least. He's harsh, powerful and lethal. Although he is her capture, Mirella can't help but to be drawn in and for the first time in her life as a servant, she finds pride and a willingness to serve this god, this purpose. Kulav has problems of his own and surprisingly, his strongest force, his most deadly of weapons are the scantily clad women that surround him. We've all read the "typical" when it comes to this place in time, the powerful god, the endless numbers of helpless women whose only purpose is to bow to his will and provide whatever he needs. That is and yet isn't the case in The Warlord's Concubine. While the women do fill their "role", they are so much more.

This book isn't for everyone. There is graphic, sometimes disturbing, sex and sex "acts" that may have you glancing over your shoulder to make sure no one is peeking at your kindle! The Warlord's Concubine is a dark fantasy romance with never a dull moment. I have read books where it was obvious where one author stopped and the other began, this book flowed nicely which is oh so important for me! The ending was a such a delightfully evil twist, I will definitely be on the look out for more from these authors!
