The Prince of Darkness’s obsession in claiming her.

Two sinfully gorgeous men pulling her in two different directions.

As the owner of the coffee shop Deja Brew in Savannah, Georgia, Anna thought her life was ordinary. That is until her sister is kidnapped by a demon, prompting two handsome men to march into her life unexpectedly.

Suddenly, her world is stripped of everything she knows and replaced with frightening news about who she really is - a powerful Grand Witch. Now, it’s up to her to draw out her dormant magic, rescue her sister and stop an impending heavenly war threatening to eradicate the human race all while staying alive
As you can see, this book didn't quite do it for me. I'll Be Damned had great promise but it struggled to come together. One of the biggest issues I had was the pacing. I've read many books that have slow starts but start to pick up about a quarter of the ways in. That, I can live with but this book was simply too slow for me. Unfortunately for Anna and company, it wasn't until I hit the 70%+ mark that I became interested and even then, it took a character introduced late in the story to strike said interest. Maybe it would have flowed better and picked up faster had not every single detail been written out about every single person, action, location, etc. That alone can get disrupt a story and add the fact that it's written in first person, very very difficult to pull off in my opinion.
I had trouble connecting with the main character because it was if her priorities were all over the place. She discovers something shocking, something that disrupts not only her own life but all those she loves and holds dear. She is given a book that will guide her and prepare for what's to come and yet it sits, collecting dust for far too long. The romance is secondary and a little watered down but at the same time, she kisses basically every male in the book aside from family and the token gay BFF. Granted, it's not always of her own will but figuring out where her heart and wants lie is a bit confusing.
I gave two stars because 1. Writing isn't easy. It takes balls, patience and grit. 2. The 'idea' intrigued me and I enjoyed the character Roman a great deal. I only wish he had been introduced sooner. There is definitely an audience for this book but unfortunately, it isn't a series that I plan to continue.

"By gods, I'll mark you every day if I have to. You will only ever think of me."
~Sabin aka Doubt

The Darkest Whisper is book 4 in the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter and unfortunately, my least favorite thus far. It wasn't a 'bad' book, far from it. That being said, I didn't feel that it was quite up to par with the previous 3 books.

Sabin, who hosts the demon of Doubt will do anything and everything to win this war against the hunters and to ensure the safety of those he considers his brothers, his family. And it's that dedication that prevents from freeing the lovely redhead he rescued from the Hunters stronghold...or so he says. The mysterious woman is one question mark after another for Sabin and one discovery in particular will shake him to his core.

This book had all the makings for a great read but, for me, it didn't quite come together. It started a bit slow, I didn't really gain much interest until chapter 11. I really like Sabin's character and Gwen had her moments. I liked the introduction of her sisters, kick ass females who didn't come off as cartoon-ish as Anya. The romance in this installment fell short as well. That's not to say there weren't any steamy romantic scenes, there's one where Sabin helps her Overall, however, I wanted the 'pull' showcased a bit more.

A couple of standout scenes fore me, the confrontation between William (LOVE HIM) and Sabin, Gideon's heartbreak over a feared 'loss' and a turning point for Amun. I will absolutely continue with this series, I only hope it gets back on track.

"But I am a man, and I want you to let me be a man. I'll give you all the control you need in life, but not of me."

**Please note, book was gifted by author in exchange for an honest review**

I'm a note taker. Each and every time I read/review a book, I have it at arms length so that I take notes as I go. When I finished Immortal Distraction, book 2 of The Immortals series by Elizabeth Finn, I looked down and saw 3 notes. THREE. Why? Because it was hard to look away long enough to pick up my pen. That being said, I have 33 highlights on my paperwhite!

This was one hell of a sequel. Angus Scott is the head of the vampire council for the Eastern region of the U.S.. When a nosey detective starts asking a lot of questions about the recent murders in the city, it makes his job of ensuring the the secrecy of his race a bit harder. When said detective comes in a gorgeous, fiery little package, it makes him, himself a bit harder...ahem.

Detective Brit Sutton has had a hard life. Her childhood was dysfunctional at best given her junkie mother and felon of a father. Through fight and grit, she rose above it and is damn good at her job. Her difficult life has hardened her in some ways and she literally throws herself into her job determined to be a standout in a man's world regardless of how many balls she must break to get there. She needs this, it's what keeps her together and whole.

What begins as a mission to see just how much she knows, quickly turns into much more as Angus feels himself drawn more and more to this amazing little mortal. Angus typically doesn't have any interest in human women, given how ultimately fragile they are. This one, however, isn't afraid to go nose to nose with him regardless of the fact that he towers over her. While he loves her determination, fire and strength, Being the alpha male he is, Angus also loves the 'art of submission without the theatrics'. And so it begins...

Immortal Distraction is a mix of  high octane action and violence, scorching hot romance that delightfully pushes the boundaries, intrigue, and some great laugh out loud moments. Angus at the coffee shop alone was priceless. The pacing is flawless, with never a dull moment. The dance between Angus and Britt is a fascinating, yet heart breaking and heart warming one. I had more fangirling occurrences than I care to admit at the moment. I cannot wait for book 3, enjoy!!!!

"You have two smiles."~Anna

"I'm more complicated than that."~Eric

**Please note, book was gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review**

Anna has had many changes in her life up to this point and it doesn't seem like there is an end to that anywhere in sight. She has worked very hard at her social skills and balancing the two worlds that make up her life. Now comes two more challenges that she must face head on, her new guide and high school.

Emily fills Anna's dreams with relentless training to prepare Anna for her destiny as a hunter. Any resistance is met with painful punishment but none as painful as the aftermath of what the scent of vampire blood does to her or the chain reaction from said response, especially when it comes to the very vamps she's grown so attached to. If that weren't enough, Anna has to find her way as in a Catholic high school whose views often differ from Anna's and trust me, she has no problem voicing her own thoughts which adds to the charm of this young heroine. Between the stares and whispers of the 'in crowd' and a PE teacher who is in much need of anger management, it can be overwhelming. Enter Cody...Cody is a stand out, yet loner student as well. He takes an interest in Anna and before long, the two are very close and playing video games at his house. Cody is drawn to her, more than she knows and he is just one of many. In fact, Cody is just one of many guys that are drawn to Anna. Motives will be questioned, strength and love will be tested.

Soul Bender is book 2 of the A Touched Girl series and while I can't say it pulled me in as strongly as the first, this series continues to take interesting twists and turns. I adore Anna's character, quirks and all but in some ways, I felt she took a couple of steps backwards in regards to maturity and progress which at times felt a bit more juvenile. She is a beautiful girl and literally every boy she came in contact with basically fell in love. That type of storyline can be tricky in my opinion. I almost need someone, anyone, not to fall in love with her. We're introduced to Trent, and he challenges her at every turn but even with him there is a pull. A pull that I hope is explored a bit more in book 3. The tide turned for me in this installment. Initially, Peter had me from the very start. Now? Not so much. I still adore the character but oddly enough, it was another male character that stole the spotlight and had me switching teams just like that! The twist surrounding said character was a delicious surprise, well done.

Soul Bender provides the reader with intrigue, action and romance. Even though some of the action felt a bit over the top and the aspects regarding sexuality didn't quite ring realistic for me, I absolutely look forward to what Ms. Jones has in store for Anna and company!

"You shouldn't have have done that, Amanda. I only have so much self control."

~Jacob aka Slade, lead vocalist for Sole Regret

Aaaand we're back on track! Take Me is the 3rd installment of the One Night with Sole Regret series by Olivia Cunning. I enjoyed this one much more than the previous so I'm now looking forward to the next, Owen's book (due out in May)!

Shade is the lead singer of Sole Regret. He's the cranky one, wound a little tighter than most but keeps it all hidden behind those shades of his. His eyes give him away, his thoughts, feelings and wants, therefore they must be hidden at all times. His defense mechanism and security blanket if you will.

The guys are home in Austin for one night before heading to San Antonio. Shade risks all to spend some of that brief time with the one female that truly and completely has his heart. Those scenes alone will break your heart and leave you grinning like a fool. That visit didn't go all that well but it both warmed and broke his heart all at the same time. After all is said and done, he just wants to go home, and relax with a pizza and some beer but after an awkward ride home given to him by a long time family friend, it turns into an invite for her to join him.

Amanda. I'm not sure how I feel about her. There is an 'eww' factor to this pairing as well, for me at least. That's the reason I didn't go with a full 4 stars. I know it won't be a big deal for some but eww, Anywho, that didn't keep me from really enjoying this book. It has all the sex appeal Ms. Cunning is known for, of course the sex did go on a little too long in some scenes. I mean come on! You know that fool has got to be chaffing by now, not to mention dehydrated! But...I digress.

What really pulled this book together was the vulnerability, charm and playfulness from Shade. It was a pleasant surprise and he just may be my favorite band member at this point. For me, it's not even so much 'Oh I hope he gets the girl!' It's finding happiness and peace and some self worth that he's lacking. Being branded as 'the stupid one' bothers him more than he lets show, not to mention his strained relationship with his lead guitarist Adam. We also learn the meaning behind the band name. Shade's explanation...yeah, fangirled some more. Poor baby. I loved the scenes Shade and Adam shared, awkward bro-hug and all! Even my kinky braniac Gabe has a scene! These are short novellas but I like that she added bro time to balance it all out. I enjoy the bro-time just as much, if not more, than the romantic aspect of the story. There is a brotherhood between them that I can't seem to get enough of.  Oh how I wish these were full on novels!

"Fly with me babe. Fly."

~Adam, lead guitarist of Sole Regret

Damn it. I had such high hopes. I do love me some rock stars and I loved book 1 of this series. That being said, it's as though the book grabbed me, then lost me.

Madison and Adam have known one another for just over a year and every time Sole Regret hits the Dallas area, they hook up for that brief time he's in town. 'Hooking up' is no longer enough for Madison but she is afraid to voice it to Adam, fearing he'll bail, not having the time or desire for anything 'real' with her.

Adam is a rock star with a past. A past that Madison is well informed of. He got his first taste of how rough life can be at a young age and this recovering addict struggles with his demons as well as understanding what his true feelings for Madison are, the girl who has stood by him in some of his darkest times.

I try not to 'spoil' in my reviews so explaining the 2.5 stars will be tricky. The nature of Adam and  Madison's relationship turned me off. WAY OFF. Not the 'hook up' aspect but how they met and how the 'relationship' began. That just did not work for me given Adam's background. I realize this is Olivia Cunning and she can write the hell out of smutty rockers BUT...I felt she laid the groundwork for a story with more depth and raw emotion but then didn't follow through.

In all honesty, I could live with or without Madison but Adam could have been a really interesting character to further develop. He and I were both  short changed because as his intrigue and layers really started to take shape, I guess that meant the kinky sex and overly horny 'good girl' quota wasn't being met because the next thing I know, the switch was flipped. By the end, Madison seemed like a different character altogether and Adam, his issues, struggles and inner regret, well, guess that got left behind on the tour bus.

"The darkness is coming."

~Vivienne-Seer of The Shade

**Please note, book was gifted by author in exchange for an honest review**

Absolutely captivating. A Shade of Blood, book 2 of the A Shade of Vampire series by Bella Forrest, blew this series wide open. I read book 1 back in February and found it to be a very impressive introduction to a fresh new YA Paranormal Romance series. I expected this installment to be good but it went beyond that, it pulled me in and never let go.

There are many key players in this mysterious world and Ms. Forrest opted to go the 'multiple POV' route. In all honesty, this often takes away from the story, for me at least. It tends to add confusion and interrupts the pacing of the book yet this was not the case here. The transitions flowed effortlessly and given the timing and order of the POV's, it added to the building intrigue of the book instead of taking away from it.

Best friends, Sophia and Ben's lives will never be the same. Both are now stuck between two different worlds, feeling an ever strengthening pull towards The Shade but for very different reasons. Both try desperately to get their lives back to normal, a feat that is obviously easier said that done. The nightmares are relentless and the darkness, is indeed coming...

Derek Novak is spiraling out of control, steadily losing what little humanity he may have left within him. Guilt from many years and battles past both consumes and drives him. He is disgusted by the gluttonous, complacent ways of his people and  will rule with an iron fist to see that they are well prepared for the lurking threats to their island.  His actions both while lucid and those committed during unexplained blackouts strikes fear, as the beast overtakes the man.

I have a love/hate relationship with books that cause me to bounce back and forth in regards to who I want to 'get the girl'.  Even now, I'm undecided. The love triangle between Ben, Sophia and Derek is a fascinating  and the odds shift from one man to the other as the story unfolds. I think one of my favorite parts of this book is the fact that no one seems to be truly 'good' or 'bad'. Derek especially had my emotions all over the place. You'll love him, loathe him and at times be utterly disgusted by him. For me, that's the makings for a fascinating leading man laid out by an author who is absolutely willing to 'go there'.

A Shade of Blood isn't your 13 yr old's YA paranormal romance, it falls towards the more mature end of this genre due to language, drinking, smoking, sex that isn't 'all about love' and even sexual assault. The author doesn't give a 'play by play' but there is no full on 'fade to black' either.

Overall, A Shade of Blood is a fascinating, full speed ahead rollercoaster ride that you'll find hard to put down. There is no 'supporting cast', I found myself wanting to know more and more about every single character I was introduced to. The combination of romance, betrayal, action and one suprise reveal after another makes for an exciting tale. And btw, the cliffhanger will leave you stumbling for book 3. Don't say I didn't warn you...

"You turn me inside out, Ami, expose all my secrets. You make me burn. And I've been cold for so long."

Action, action and more action. Night Reigns, book 2 in the Immortal Guardians, comes out swinging. Marcus is a pissy old chap who would like to be left alone, just him, his ferocious house cat Slim and his fighting gear. His life as an immortal hasn't been an easy one, his chances at love, even more complex. Even though it is customary that the Guardians have a Second (a human assistant if you will), Marcus wants no part of it. Been there, done that. Bitch and moan as he may, when Seth , leader of the immortal guardians, says get the picture. Though shaken by his attraction to the emerald eyed beauty, Marcus still aims to drive her away, hoping she will run, kicking and screaming, to Seth demanding she be reassigned. Thing is, Ami is no quitter. She has been assigned a job and a job she'll do whether the big, bad and brooding immortal likes it or not.

Seth is especially protective of Ami and the nature of their relationship isn't quite clear, much to Marcus' dismay. Ami is unlike any Second Marcus has ever had, in more ways than he knows. Both have to be battle ready at any given moment, regardless of the battle that each is fighting within themselves. Marcus finds her 'impressive', for a human that is and even Slim seems to have taken a liking to her. With the infected vampire uprising gaining momentum and the intended targets becoming blurry, they must rely on one another despite the secrets between them.

Night Reigns is a fast paced urban fantasy, laced with paranormal romance and sprinkled with a bit of sci-fi to boot. The laugh out loud moments between the bickering immortals, not to mention Marcus and Ami's 'skate scene', added great charm. Keeping the who's who and the what's whats was a little challenging at times simply because there was just so much going on. The immortals, the vampires, ballsy yet half crazed humans and who's that with wings?! I enjoyed the twists and turns and every revelation and/or hint that popped up throughout. I loved Roland in book 1 and now Marcus as well. That being said, and I haven't even gotten to his book yet, but Bastien is the one, THEE ONE that I can already see myself fan-girl'ing over. Seriously.
