REVIEW-NOBODY'S HERO (RESCUE ME #3) BY KALLYPSO MASTERS

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

"Turn over. On your knees and elbows. Then brace yourself, because I'm going to ram my dick so deep inside you, you are going to taste me. Is that clear?"
~Master Sergeant Adam Montague, USMC

After typing the above quote, I sat and stared at my laptop for a good 10 mintues. How can I possibly follow that! So, I'm just going to take another moment, or two...

ADAM

Ahem. What does it take to bring a Master to his knees...
Nobody's Hero is the third installment of the Rescue Me series. Book 1 blew me away, book 2 was good, I had some minor issues. Nobody's Hero not only gets this series back on track but truly raises the bar. This book flowed much smoother than the previous. A friend of mine who finished before me made a comment "If you think you love Adam now, just wait..." Truer words have never been spoken.Whether it's his filthy mouth, his huge heart, the fact that he sings in the shower and burns cinnamon rolls, or all of the above, I just love this character. Did I mention he went to boot camp in Parris Island, where I was born. Oh! He's also a biter...

For the most part, I've been able to find a great leading man in my preferred reading. That being said, not all are as solid and as memorable as Adam. As the head of this unorthodox little family, I hope to get a nice big piece of Adam in each and every installment til this series comes to an end!

In book 3, everyone surrounds Karla and her attempt to nurse Adam back to health. She is there, day and night, little care for her own well being. She hardly eats or sleeps, Marc finally puts his foot down and Doms with care, if you will. Karla gets a glimps of what haunts Adam while she watches him dream and speaking of, lets just say Adam can and will do alot more than just talk in his sleep...

Karla has loved Adam since she was 16 years old. No longer that teen with a crush, Karla is all grown up and quick to put Adam in his place. Something that not many dare attempt. I have to say, the banter between Adam and Karla is fantastic and his signature "Come again?" hmm, maybe it's a fangirl thing but I may, or may not, have bitten my bottom lip each and everytime. ha! Karla feels she cant be happy without him and he feels she can't be happy with him. For such a force to be reckoned with, and so good at understanding the needs of others, Adam is so clueless when it comes to women. Granted, he knows the woman's body as though he created it himself but really truly understanding women, Master Montague is bit out of his element. Case in point when he decides to not push Karla away himself, but force her to run on her own by offering her a "relationship" that young Karla would surely run from, shocked and disgusted. He has no idea what he's done.

This is a very emotional ride for both Karla and Adam both in regards to one another and for themselves, who and what they are at their core. Something I really love about this author is that she walks that tight line and makes it seem so effortless. I was telling a gym friend about the series yesterday and I led with "You are initially introduced to 3 Marines who now co-own a BDSM kink club together." That's gets everyone's attention but I quickly follow up with, but you love them. You fall head over hills in love with these men, their pasts, their presents and the women easing them into their futures.

This is obviously a romance read but at the same time the bond between the three men adds so much to the series as a whole. Their relationships carry just as much weight as the romantic relationships. The admiration and love, Adam and Marc are like brothers and each time Damian calls Adam "Dad", it melts my heart. A nice bond between the women in their lives is starting to form as well, only adding more depth to this series. Book 4 can't come soon enough.

REVIEW-NOBODY'S ANGEL (RESCUE ME #2) BY KALLYPSO MASTERS

My rating: 3.5 stars out of 5

"Oh, I assure you, il diavolo long ago reserved a special place for me, bella, for sins far worse than that one."

~Marc

***MILD SPOILERS**

Nobody's Angel is the second installment in the Rescue Me series. By all intents and purposes, this is Marc's book. For me, however, Marc and his story was a bit overshadowed by both a new and an existing character. Not to say the book didnt focus on him enough, because it did. I think the introduction of Luke, as well as the set up for Adam's book, book 3, was more intriguing than Marc's story, his journey.

I really liked the initial development of this story. Marc was working his shift as a DM (Dungeon Monitor) one night at the BDSM club that he co-owns with fellow Vets Adam and Damian,  when he came upon a disturbing scene. Angelina and boyfriend Alan were first timers at the club and Angelina was new to the lifestyle in general. The scene has taken an abusive turn and while Marc is able to put an end to it, that damage has still been done. Angelina is broken, Marc being her masked angel that saves her. It was a beautiful, touching moment, while maintaining a very erotic edge.

Introducing...

Luke
Luke Denton is a Texan, played highschool football near El Paso and like most Texas boys, his drive to attend the University of Texas was to play Longhorn football. Luke ended up majoring in Studio Art. With his disheveled chestnut hair and smokey blue/gray eyes, he's a perfect addition to this series. He's not just Marc's SAR partner, he also builds custom "equipment" for the club and Marc's personal residence.

As fate would have it, Marc and Luke find themselves in a bar in Angelina's hometown, just outside of Denver. While Angelina doesnt recognize Marc as her masked angel, he recognizes her and the emotions she stirred in him during their brief, yet powerful time together. Luke is moved by her as well. The young widowers wife appeared to him in a recent dream telling him "It's time" and that she was sending him an angel, that needs him. Marc is torn between what he wants, what he feels he deserves, and his friend Luke who may find a new life line in this woman.

I have to say, the development in this storyline, between Marc, Angelina and Luke became a little too far fetched for me. I still enjoyed the story, and the heat level was off the charts. I'll never play a game of pool or even glance at a couch with the same frame of mind ever again. I really wanted to give 4 stars but I found myself skimming and almost stauling out completely during a particular bedroom scene. I understand the intent to introduce the reader to the lifestyle at the same pace as Angelina but overall, it just went on for too long. Once I got past that scene, it was full speed ahead.

I love how the connections are starting to surface here. How the characters are or will be linked. The ending of this book was fantastic. As I said earlier, Luke and Adam were my standouts in this installment and their developments near the end makes me even more excited to see where this series goes.

REVIEW-MASTERS AT ARMS (RESCUE ME #1) BY KALLYPSO MASTERS

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

"I'm Master Sergeant Adam Montague, U.S. Marine Corps. But you can call me Adam."

Honestly, I dont even know where to begin with this one, so much to say. For starts, from a technical standpoint, I love how this book is laid out. The reader is introducted to Adam, Damian and Marc seperately. We learn a bit about their background and what led them to the military. After you've met each of these men, it all comes together. How they met, how they bonded lays the foundation for the rest of the series.

When I read the blurb, I honestly expected full on smut. The cover, the BDSM element, the fact that they're Marines just added that extra spice. I'm a Marine baby, both parents served. Semper Fi. I wasnt expecting to be pulled into the lives of these men, to hang on every word, to pull for them, to care about their journey as deeply as I did. This book got to me, emotionally, in a way I never imagined it would. While I adore all three, I have to say, Adam, just...Adam.

Introducing...

Adam
My absolute favorite, Adam.
He's been a Marine for 20 + years and while his actual age has yet to be given, there was a reference that he may be around 43yrs old. I fell for him immediately. Adam is hardnosed, no nonsense, yet has a heart of absolute gold. He has suffered alot of loss in his lifetime, both personal and professional but it hasnt left him an empty shell. I have to say, his love interest, how that story develops, pulled me up short. On one hand, I feel like I should have been turned off, a bit revolted even, but on the other hand, Ms. Masters lays the foundation so delicately, it broke and warmed my heart all at the same time.

Damian
Damian, the "baby" of the group is only about 19 years old. A bus boy, who's just looking to make rent and to keep his nose clean. Coming from a poor Hispanic family, his only real prize possession is his Harley. A Harley that he worked hard to restore, his baby. Damian had a rough childhood, hard working parents and time in "Juvie" for defending his sister. Some habits die hard and defending women is something Damian will do, regardless of what it may cost him. When a troubled blonde catches his eye, his world will never be the same.

Marc
Marc runs the family business, a resort in Aspen. Though miserable in his role, leaving doesnt come easy. Coming from a strong Italian family, headed by an even stronger Italian mother, Marc or Marco, who is 27 or 28 years old, does the best that he can. Having suffered a family loss, he has his own demons, his own visual reminder and also has his own way of making certain guests feel even more "welcome" at the resort. While he may "dominate" in some areas, standing up to his mother doesnt come easy. Marc has to find his way, his worth and his own personal forgiveness.
The last few sections of the book really drew me in, how they met, what bonds them for life, the aftermath, I became so invested in so few pages, I cannot wait to continue this series.

REVIEW-LEATHER, LACE AND ROCK-N-ROLL (SEALS INC. #1) BY MIA DYMOND

My rating :3 out of 5 stars

"That is my name and I'll make absolutely sure you scream it."

                                            ~Hawke

Leather, Lace and Rock-N-Roll is a very light, cute read. Jaydon Hawke is a front man rocker and then some. I think this book had lots of promise and potential but it never quite got there for me. I'm not sure if it's my own personal experience with musicians, maybe so, but Hawke just wasnt front man material. Not to me atleast. He didnt quite "fit the bill". Musicans have a way about them, a magnetism, even the self loathing, brooding ones, which are very common in Rock n Roll.

I did enjoy under which circumstance Hawke and Rachel met. They did indeed have good chemistry but it wasn't great. Maybe it was just underdeveloped. I didn't dislike Rachel but I didnt really pull for her either. If she got the guy, great. If she didnt get the guy, meh...better luck next time. There is a little action and suspense woven into this book, which also was a bit bland for me. I knew who the "bad guy" was immediately so after that, that aspect of the book bored me a bit.

The real story, what kept me reading til the end, was the side story. The development between Cameron, Rachel's best friend and Max, who is Hawke's bodyguard. Their chemistry was instant, strong and well written. Both characters completely eclipsed the lead characters both on their own and in their scenes together. Leather, Lace and Rock-N-Roll is a rough start to what may or may not be a very good series. I do plan on reading book 2 in the near future, even if for no other reason to see if Cameron and Max's book is a stronger read.

REVIEW-FIFTY SHADES OF GREY BY EL JAMES

My rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

"It's taking all my self control not to fuck you on the hood of this car right now, just to show you that you are mine, and if I want to buy you a fucking car, I'll buy you a fucking car."

~Christian Grey

 ***MILD SPOILERS***

Hmm, ok...Christian Grey, my one and only saving grace in this book. I was really expecting to enjoy this book much more than I did. I simply had to know what all the fuss was about and to be honest, I'm still wondering. Anyone who knows me or reads this blog knows I am no prude. I love my smut just as much as the next girl. That being said, I couldnt see this book as anything but and unfortunately, even that fell flat for me more times than not.  I've enjoyed many books that aren't much more than fluffy smut. I take them for what they are and enjoy. Unfortunately, I had a hard time doing that with this book because the issues I have completely overshadowed everything else.

I had such a hard time getting past the writing style.  The tenses threw me at times,as did the lack of word building and development. The scenes were choppy, not much flow at all.  I can handle a bit of repetition but this was overkill for me. The Oh my, glancing at her knotted fingers and "inner goddess" references were exhausting. I understand that our heroine Ana is "sheltered" and lacks experience but this was just...wow. I tried desperately to find something in her that I liked or could even relate to and simply could not. She was nothing short of unbearably annoying and I couldnt bring myself to get in her corner, to hope tha she "gets the guy". Instead, it was more, "What the fuck does he see in her?"

Nothing shocked me in this book, I found the BDSM elements to be "soft" and slightly out of order, if that makes sense. Her first introduction to his "lifestyle", which took place in her bedroom, for me seemed a bit extreme, only in comparison to scenes in the Play Room. He spanked her what...18 times? Yet the Play Room was some riding crop fun. Such a mild introduction to this so called intimidating room yet in her own bedroom....

Anywho, I wont run this book into the ground and tear it apart bit for bit. Will I read the other two installments? Sure, well, probably. Am I anxious to start book 2 right this minute? No. I think the best thing about this book is the reaction it has generated in other readers. My favorite example...
