So many books, so little time.......

482.

That is the current number in regards of books on my "to read" list. I'm hoping for a long lazy summer with a book (or my kindle) never far from reach. That being said, I think it's time for some summer cleaning in regards to my list. I need a system. Especially in regards to sequels. Not all the series that I've read are complete so it's a matter of knowing when to wrap back around for the newest installment.

Have you found any methods that work great for you? HELP!

Review-Awaken the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney

Awaken the Highland Warrior (Connor Clan, #1)Awaken the Highland Warrior by Anita Clenney

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I won this book via a goodreads giveaway. Thank you Ms. Clenney. :)

I was pleasantly suprised by this book. I found Bree to be a fantastic female lead. She's very stong willed and independent while vulnerable at the same time. Emotionally atleast. Bree is always on the hunt. She enjoys digging up the past and making sense of it. Literally. She has inherited her late grandmothers home and on that land lies the family graveyard. What lay buried underground, right in her back yard, will change her life, as she knows it, forever. Enter Faelan.

Faelan is a warrior who has been trapped in a time vault for 150 years. She invites him to her home to tend to his wounds, help his recovery while neither are quite sure of the other. The only thing that is for sure, is Faelan's draw to her. It's as though he can't control it. While Bree has a horrible relationship track record, and knows she should ward off men, Faelan is'nt easily ignored.

I loved the back and forth between the two leads. I laughed out loud numerous times as Faelan tried to figure out if Bree was "touched in the head". Women from his time were not like Bree. He is baffled that she lives by herself, let alone works outside of the home. This of course is infuriating to Bree, though, the way he looks at her......

For me, the "action" is this book was secondary, it was the "dance" between the two leads that sucked me in and kept me there. Faelan is just delish, plain and simple. I loved his inner monologue in regards to his feelings for Bree. I hope to also learn more about Bree in the second installment. There is definately more to her. The reader is left wondering just who she is exactly.

Ms. Clenney did a great job of not "revealing" too soon. I had a couple of cases of "Just when you think you know....." so that was an added bonus. She also peaked my interest in one of the secondary characters. Ronan. I loved he was written into the story and his interaction with both Bree and Faelan. Again, delish. I want to know more about him and the secrets that he keeps.

Nicely done. Can't wait to read Embrace the Highland Warrior in Nov.

Review-Every Last Kiss by Courtney Cole

Every Last Kiss (The Bloodstone Saga)Every Last Kiss by Courtney Cole

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you can make me cry, it's an automatic 4 stars right out the gate. :) I enjoyed the book as kind of a light read. That was until I hit about 80%. At that point, Ms. Cole broke my heart, had me grabbing for kleenex so as not to cry on my kindle. lol

I was thrown at first. The book starts out in present day with 17 year old Macy discovers that Derek, boyfriend of two years, was'nt worth the time. She has a best friend who is determined to see Macy through this tough time and to make sure she continues to see through the no good ex as well. Just as I started to get into that storyline, I was whisped to ancient Egypt amongst Cleopatra and company.

Such time in history is'nt usually my bag but Ms. Cole sold me with her rich detail and softening of the historic icons Cleopatra and Marc Antony. They became real to me, their love story as well. Of course the lovestory that carried the book is that between Charmian (Macy) and Hasani. While Macy is but 17 at this point in her current life cycle, Charmian was an adult and I appreciate Ms. Cole making the adjustment. Charmian's relationship with Hasani was mature and that helped sell it to me, the reader.

Charmian is a great lead with the weight of the world literally on her shoulders. She knows the fate that lies ahead for she and all she loves. How can anyone watch the love of their life die even once, let alone twice? The ending of this book and how it set up for book 2 was flawless. I think there is a good chance that I may like book 2 even more than this one. The potential is endless. Well done.

Review-Darkness Dawns by Dianne Duvall

Darkness Dawns (Immortal Guardians, #1)Darkness Dawns by Dianne Duvall

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I loved this book, I truly did. The only reason I did'nt give it 5 stars was due to the "organic brow beating" laced throughout the entire thing. Granted, I'm not "anti organic" in anyway but the constant references in this book was a bit much.

The book itself was wonderful. I loved the backstory of all the characters and how it was woven together. I was pleased to find some of the secondary characters as interesting as the leads. "Marcus", for example "stole the show" more times than once. Roland (male lead) is delish. Physically striking of course but with Roland, that aspect is almost secondary. It's his heart, his soul and the fragility of both that will capture you.

Sarah (female lead), is quirky and quite comical. I laughed alot during this read. I liked Sarah because she is no victim. Sarah is both strong and soft, with the good mindset to know which to lead with given the situation.

This is just the beginning of the of the Immortal Guardians series. I can't wait for book 2!
